Bill Muckalt, originally from Williams Lake, British Columbia, played for the Kelowna Spartans before entering the University of Michigan.
He played in 162 games during his four years at Michigan, during which he earned 226 points, a mark which places him in seventh place for career points at Michigan. Of those 226 points, he had 105 goals (6th overall) and 121 assists (9th overall). He is fifth overall in power play goals (41) and second overall in game-winning goals (19). In 1995, he was named to the All-CCHA Rookie Team. He made the All-CCHA First Team in 1998. In 1998, Bill Muckalt was awarded the Doc Losh Trophy for Scoring Leader.
After leaving Michigan, Bill Muckalt played professional hockey from 1998 to 2004, playing in the National Hockey League with the Vancouver Canucks, New York Islanders, Ottawa Senators, and Minnesota Wild.
After retiring from from hockey, Bill Muckalt began coaching. His coaching career began at Eastern Michigan University in 2006. In 2009, he began coaching the Valencia Flyers of the Western States Hockey League. He became the coach of the New Mexico Mustangs of the North American Hockey League in 2010. Beginning in 2011, he accepted a job as Assistant Coach for Michigan Technological University, remaining there until he accepted a job coaching the Tri-City Storm of the United States Hockey League. In 2017, he returned to the University of Michigan where he is serving as Assistant Coach of the Wolverines.
